Are all hot tubs the same? After all they are all filled with warm water, and water jets designed to soothe your aches and pains and relax you.
Well nothing could be further from the truth, as hot tubs now come in several different styles and formats.
First of all and probably the most common form of hot tub sold is the Acrylic tub. Acrylic tubs have now overtaken, if not totally replaced GRP tubs. Where as a GRP tub would take the manufacturer several days to make the core of the tub, the core of an Acrylic tub can be made in just hours.
The ease of manufacture of Acrylic tubs has led to hot tubs now being mass manufactured and thus the prices have tumbled in recent years, with small entry level hot tubs now being very affordable.
All of these types of tubs come pre-assembled, all you have to do is put them in place, arrange for a permanent electric supply to be connected to them, and then fill them with water.
You can also buy Cedar wood hot tubs which look very good in a natural garden setting, particularly if they have decking around them, or they are sunken into decking. Whilst you can buy them pre-assembled, the vast majority of cedar wood tubs will come in kit form. To some people this may seem a disadvantage, but to most people it is an advantage.
There are several reasons for this: -
- You can site them anywhere in your garden without having to use a crane to put them in to place.
- You could build one up indoors.
- You can bring a kit home in your car.
- They can be heated by a wood stove as well as electricity.
As a result of coming in a kit, they also cost less, which is another positive point.
They can be assembled by any competent DIY person over a weekend, or less if you have a friend to help you out.
If you have access to a lot of free wood, then you could choose a wood fired water heater, which will then cost very little to run.
The third type of hot spa that you can buy is a portable hot tub. These types of hot tubs are low cost to buy and very easy to assemble. Also as they come in a kit form you can site them anywhere in your garden. They can also be assembled inside, or on a balcony.
Another key advantage that portable spa’s have is that they can be assembled or disassembled in an hour or less. This means that if you buy one in the morning, and get it assembled and filled with water in another two hours, with a good heater it should be ready to use that evening!
They also disassemble into a relatively small box, making them small enough to take on holiday if you have a caravan or motor home.
So as you can see there is a wide variety of hot tubs available.
